Paul Bowles

HERE I AM

When I am here I shall not mind
I shall merely murmur:
If no one comes and sees me here it will be all right

Here it is hard to believe that anything is free
Come let us lapse into freedom
Let all these things become less than dust
Let me not think at all ever
Let these things come close together
Let everything be slow and soft
Let the wind blow over the roof at noon
Let everything be soft here because there is no dust
Let anything except what is coming come
That is the way I always have felt

Suffering and Self-grasping

Whenever I look at someone's suffering, I realize that the types of suffering are numerous as the specks of dust floating in the sunlight. However, if we can eliminate self-grasping there is but the nakedness of the mind-as-such.

Humble Pie

Self-grasping and wrong desire are like crops
destroyed by frost.
If the Dharma, which is meant to tame the mind,
becomes a source of arrogance,
the root of virtue is cut.
This is my heart's advice.

Prematurely attempting to benefit beings is like a leader
with no sight.
It is a cause of not helping others
and of suffering for oneself.
Make effort in loving-kindness, aspiration,
and dedication.
This is my heart's advice.

What is a Pureland?

"What is the pureland really? The pureland is one's own stainless primordial awareness. If, from moment to moment, you regain and retain your own primordial enlightened nature: that is the Pureland. Everything comes from your own mind. Understand that, remain there:that is the Pureland."
The Oral Commentaries by Drikung Kagyü Teachers in San Francisco Gyalwa Drikung Kyabgön Chetsang Rinpoche in The Oral Commentaries by Kagyü Teachers in San Francisco.

Bodhisattvas and Dharmapalas

We pray and supplicate to beautiful or wrathful images of Bodhisattvas and Dharmapalas, but the truth is they are everywhere. Look around, they have shape shifting abilities and are whatever propels you headlong towards the mind of Compassion and Wisdom.

Anger

I don't want to be angry or resentful towards anyone or anything again. But this emotion created by my monkey mind creeps up in a very subtle way. Then I find myself in this negative frame of mind. Then I start again to let go like Prometheus bound!

Ignorance

Khenchen Konchog Gyaltshen Rinpoche People harm us only through ignorance. If we retaliate, that will not help. So think: if we strive for our own peace and happiness, shouldn't we make the same effort for others? Transformation of Suffering

Meditating

Try this: sit down quietly somewhere, take three, deep, slow, even breaths, pausing briefly at the inhale, and again after exhaling. If you have more time, take more slow easy breaths. Controlled deep breathing helps us to relax and oxygenates our system. It will improve both looks and energy levels, while calming the nervous system. If more people would try to understand the power of breath, they would make a conscious effort to change their breathing habits. If more people would change their breathing habits, there would be less sickness, more happiness, and more wealth and prosperity on the planet. One cannot breathe deeply, relax, and still feel fear, anger, or other stressful emotions. If you change the way that you breathe, you can change the moment you are in, and that change becomes the next step in your life. If you try deep, slow breathing on a regular basis, a transformation process will automatically begin. At first, the changes are imperceptible. With practice, however, the changes will be like a rebirth through a subtle purification of your body, mind, and speech.

Time Cycle

I am having a wonderful time.
I am having a terrible time.
I am having a time.
I am having time.
I am having.
I am.
I.

I.
I am.
I am having.
I am having time.
I am having a time.
I am having a terrible time.
I am having a wonderful time.

Negatives

Negative conditions are spiritual teachers;
Spirits and demons are emanations of conquerors;
Sickness is a broom sweeping away defilements and obscurations
All sufferings are dharmata's waves.

Jumbo-Jet

"Following the flight path of all the conquerors of the three times,
The jumbo-jet of relative and ultimate bodhicitta
Soars through the sky on the wings of the two accumulations
And lands smoothly, with no delays, at the four kayas airport."

Being

Being is complete in itself. That is the nature of transcendental wisdom. Our being is a mystical sacrament, it is the mysterious and sacred grace of the present moment. It has been around a lot longer than churches and religions. It is not our personal being, but being itself. It is in all living beings.

Cynicism

Cynicism closes the possibilities and the channels of life. It shrivels the soul.

Fearlessness

There is a fearless quality to giving. We have to help those who live in vexation, fear, and despair and encourage them to overcome any difficulties they encounter. The third category of generosity is the giving of fearlessness. If someone encounters a frightening experience and you comfort them and deliver them from distress and terror, you have made a gift of fearlessness.

Ethics

It is wise not to harm. This is the essence of virtue.

Generosity

There are three major categories of generosity. There is the giving of wealth and there is both inner and outer wealth. Outer wealth and its symbols. We all understand inner wealth refers to one’s own head, brain, eyes, and words. For those poor and disabled, we help them with money and goods for living. If people cannot survive, aren’t satisfied with their basic needs, they will not listen to what you say and follow what you do. Though the help is sometimes minimal, it is an immediate solution to relieve them from suffering, starving, coldness, and so on. With the immeasurable mind of compassion, a conscious person doesn’t hesitate to help under these circumstances.

Wish Fulfilling Jewel

The wish fulfilling jewel is none other than a thought instantly realized mind-jewel. This is no different in an ordinary mind as in an enlightened one. All thoughts arise and because of that they are.
